5,306 cast votes through home voting and postal ballots in Mizoram

Aizawl, (Samajweekly) A total of 5,306 voters, including senior citizens above 80 years old, people with disabilities (PwDs) and government officials associated with the election process, exercised their franchise for the November 7 Mizoram Assembly elections through home voting and postal ballots, officials said on Tuesday.

While 1,100 senior citizens and PwDs exercised their franchise in their homes in presence of election officials, 4,206 government officials, including security and polling personnel, voted through postal ballots in various counters set up in 11 districts.

No voter in the senior citizens and PwDs categories has cast their votes in three districts – Hnahthial, Lawngtlai, and Siaha.

According to the election officials, the highest number of 463 senior citizens and PwD voters have cast their votes in Aizawl district, followed by Serchhip district (168) and Saitual district (149).

In all, 779 government officials cast votes in Aizawl district, 733 in Lawngtlai district and 574 in Lunglei district.
