Singaporean Minister, I&B Minister Anurag Thakur discuss various issues

New Delhi, (Samajweekly) Visiting Singaporean Minister Dr. Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman on Monday met Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and discussed various issues related to digital media, youth exchanges and bilateral relations, an official statement said.

Dr Maliki, who is the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as the Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs, informed him about the regulatory framework of digital platforms and digital media in Singapore and Thakur, discussing India’s version of regulations, told him that India has a three tier mechanism for regulation, an Information and Broadcasting Ministry statement said.

Thakur also apprised him of India’s experiment with fact checking in form of a dedicated Fact Check Unit under Press Information Bureau and said that this is easily accessible to anyone on WhatsApp or email.

He also told Maliki that India was in its 75th year of independence and since Singapore got independence on August 9, 1965, both the countries could explore celebrating a week as India-Singapore Independence Week and this could include cultural and knowledge exchange, among other things.

“India is a country with a huge youth population with aspirations and I believe it is the actions taken by the youth today that will transform India for the next hundred years,” Thakur said, and also informed the visiting dignitary about India’s efforts to skill its young population through various skilling initiatives.

Dr Maliki also invited Thakur to pay a visit to Singapore.
