New Delhi: Farmers protest against new agricultural laws at Delhi UP border Ghazipur in new Delhi
*Kisan Sansad to continue on Monday, parallel to the Parliament’s proceedings*
*Another fire at Singhu Border does not affect protestors’ ‘charhdi kalan’*
*BJP leaders continue to face local protests – It is the turn of Uttarakhand Chief Minister yesterday*
(Samajweekly) Samyukt Kisan Morcha’s Kisan Sansad will re-commence on Monday. As announced already, the Kisan Sansad at Jantar Mantar will run on all days of the Parliament, parallel to the proceedings there. The two days of Kisan Sansad on 22nd and 23rd July 2021 discussed the anti-farmer APMC Bypass Act and passed a resolution for its immediate repeal. The debates in the Kisan Sansad also recognise that the existing mandi system needs to be improved by state governments with budgetary support from the Centre. This aspect has also been included in the Kisan Sansad resolution yesterday. The Farmers’ Parliament ran in an orderly, peaceful and disciplined manner and the debates were rich in detail and analysis. Meanwhile, the four days of proceedings in India’s Parliament in the monsoon session so far reflected the grave concerns with regard to Modi Government’s functioning, and critical issues confronting common citizens and our democracy. As is known, SKM had issued a People’s Whip to all MPs before the session began.
It is noteworthy that mini-Kisan Sansads are being organised in other places too. At the protest site in Kila Raipur in Ludhiana district of Punjab, at the dry port of Adani, children ran a Kisan Sansad yesterday. The significance of this movement is that it is inspiring multiple generations of citizens to join and contribute!
From Punjab, a forum of retired bureaucrats and defence services personnel called Kirti Kisan Forum has expressed its support to the ongoing farmers’ agitation, and the Kisan Sansad at Jantar Mantar. Similarly, retired Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas, in a message in Punjabi, has lent his support and solidarity to the farmers’ movement. He expressed his admiration of the struggle, as well as the peace and discipline of the protestors.
There was a fire at Singhu Border protest site again today, and many tents of farmers got destroyed in this incident. However, the spirit of the farmers is unaffected and everything is “charhdi kalan”.
We have been reporting about numerous protests against BJP leaders in Punjab and Haryana. Recently, the state unit President of BJP in Rajasthan faced black flag protests near Alwar. Yesterday, it was the turn of Uttarakhand Chief Minister when he came to Rudrapur. Local farmers gathered in large numbers to protest against his visit, and police picked up many protestors. In Phagwara in Punjab yesterday, there was a protest against BJP leaders Som Parkash (Union Minister) and Vijay Sampla in Satnampura village.
In Haryana, the administration formally closed the cases in Hisar, lodged when farmers protested against the CM’s visit there. The Satyagraha of protesting farmers is bearing fruit in this manner.
In Bihar, various farmer unions under the banner of AIKSCC took a decision to organise a state-wide protest on August 9th, on Quit India Day.
