Azam Khan refuses to meet Congress leader

Sitapur, (Samajweekly) Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan, currently lodged in the Sitapur District Jail, has refused to meet Congress state president Ajay Rai.

According to the news received from jail sources, Khan refused to meet Ajay Rai on Thursday.

Jail officials said prisoners can visit people twice in 15 days, and that Khan had told them he would only meet family members.

Suresh Kumar Singh, Jail Superintendent, Sitapur, said: “In 15 days, an inmate is allowed to meet sets of visitors. Azam Khan has already used up one visit for the current 15-day period, and he said that he would like to meet family members for the second visit. I have conveyed this to the Congress Sitapur district president.”

Azam’s son Adeeb had met him on Wednesday.

The next meeting is possible only next week.

At the same time, according to jail sources, Azam has told the jail officials that he does not want to meet any politician.

He just wants to meet his family members. He has refused to meet any other leader.

SP district president Chhatrapal Yadav said that he is not aware that Azam Khan refused to meet Ajay Rai.

Azam Khan is being treated like a common prisoner.
