Calls for dialogue, democratic rights and education reforms
Leicester / London, 23 July 2026: The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) has announced that it will join the London Day of Action on Sunday, 26 July, in solidarity with the student-led movement in India calling for justice, transparency, accountability and meaningful reforms to the country’s education system.
Organised by the South Asia Solidarity Group, the event will begin with a Protest and Open Mic at 3.00 pm in Trafalgar Square, followed by a march to the Indian High Commission at 4.30 pm. The demonstration has attracted support from a broad coalition of diaspora organisations, trade unionists, students and human rights campaigners.
The Indian Workers Association said it stands firmly with India’s students and young people who are peacefully exercising their democratic right to demand a fair, transparent and accountable education system. The Association expressed concern over reports of baton charges, tear gas and injuries during clashes between protesters and police, while acknowledging that police personnel have also reportedly been injured. It called on all sides to exercise restraint and urged the authorities to resolve the situation through constructive dialogue rather than confrontation.
The Association believes that the aspirations of India’s young people deserve to be heard and addressed through democratic engagement and meaningful reforms that restore confidence in the education system.

“The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) stands shoulder to shoulder with the students and youth of India in their peaceful struggle for justice, transparency and democratic rights. Young people are not the enemies of the nation—they are its future. Their voices deserve to be heard with respect, not answered with repression.
We urge the Government of India to engage in meaningful dialogue with student representatives and introduce reforms that restore confidence in the education system. We also call upon members of the Indian community, trade unions, students and everyone who believes in democracy and human rights to join us at the London Day of Action on 26 July. Democracy is strengthened when governments listen to their young people rather than silence them.”
