Bengaluru, (Samajweekly) State-run Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Uttarkhand’s Rishikesh have co-developed a remote monitoring system to combat coronavirus, an official said on Friday.
“The system remotely assesses the health of Covid suspect or patient quarantined in hospitals or at home and protects healthcare staff’s exposure,” said the official of the city-based BEL in a statement here.
The company developed the dynamic system on inputs from AIIMS to provide a digital and clinical solution without exposing health workers to the deadly virus.
The system’s integrating non-invasive health monitoring sensors measure temperature, pulse rate, saturated oxygen level and respiration rate.
“With expertise in network centric and Internet of Things (IoT) systems, we have networked the sensors for monitoring the key parametres remotely,” said the official.
The BEL also developed a mobile app/web browser to enable patients to get admitted to hospital on feeling Covid symptoms.
The institute will study the patient’s complaints and give him or her a kit for periodical monitoring of the key parametres.
“The software will give SMS alerts to medical officers and health staff when the parameters exceed the threshold. It will also record the patient’s condition in colour codes,” said the company.
The centre’s data analytics software will map the geo-distribution of the virus-hit suspects/patients in the state.
“The data will help the hospital administration to identify the hotspots, isolate and cordon off the areas to check the virus spread,” added the official.
