(Samaj Weekly)- Former Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate Beverley Nielsen has endorsed Labour’s Liam Byrne to be West Midlands Mayor.

In a major boost to Labour’s campaign in the West Midlands Beverley Nielsen is writing to thousands of Liberal Democrat voters to push the case for Liam Byrne ahead of next months elections.

In the letter former Liberal Democrat candidate Beverley Nielsen says:

“I’ve known Liam Byrne for over 15 years. In that time I’ve been impressed by his integrity, commitment and hard work. He clearly puts the people of his constituency and the West Midlands first and foremost.

“My decision not to stand for the Liberal Democrats again was largely based on a sense that I wholeheartedly agreed with his vision.”

Beverley Nielsen ran for the Liberal Democrats in the 2017 West Midlands Mayoral elections, but has now thrown her weight behind Labour and Byrne’s campaign.

She added:

“I’m impressed by his desire to work with and really understand our West Midlands businesses, especially our vital manufacturing base and allied service industries.”

Welcoming her support Labour’s Liam Byrne said:

“Beverley has been a strong voice for the West Midlands over many years. I really welcome her support in this crucial election.”

Beverley Nielsen’s letter in full to Liberal Democrat’s across the West Midlands:

“I’ve known Liam Byrne for over 15 years. In that time I’ve been impressed by his integrity, commitment and hard work. He clearly puts the people of his constituency and the West Midlands first and foremost.

“My decision not to stand for the Liberal Democrats again was largely based on a sense that I wholeheartedly agreed with his vision. Liam’s beliefs about what’s urgently needed for the West Midlands in terms of employment, equality and diversity are ones I share. His dedication, passion and commitment to change that will benefit all members of society in this region is infectious and should, I believe, be irresistible.

“He’s strident in opposing poverty and its oppressive burden, his agenda around radical compassion is focussed on promoting greater aspiration for all our residents, providing apprenticeships and skills development that genuinely delivers opportunity for our people and business.

“I’m impressed by his desire to work with and really understand our West Midlands businesses, especially our vital manufacturing base and allied service industries. In transitioning to a green economy he’s worked tirelessly to gain current insights into business markets, supply chains, competitive concerns, grasping the pressing need long term support in delivering our green industrial strategy if we are to seize the full scale of these emerging opportunities.

“He appreciates the need to harness the creative efforts of our diverse population. Employing fully the creative talent of our young people, the innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow, who so desperately need a voice and a new vision. The young leaders who are looking for a sincerity around the green revolution, climate change and the urgent need to green our region, making it the most attractive place to set up eco-friendly businesses and enhance quality of life for everyone.”
