8th to 12th Nov: NAPM & Jan Azadi 75 Call to Support Financial Accountability Campaign

National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) and Jan Azadi-75 support the Campaign Call issued by the Financial Accountability Network India – FAN India to observe 8th to 12th November, 2021 as Week of Action highlighting the anti-people decisions of the Govt. of India, that has jeopardized our economy and wreaked havoc on the lives and livelihoods of millions of working-class people across the country.
8th Nov, 2021 marks 5 years of the disastrous demonetization plan that made grand promises, but only ended up pauperizing large numbers of people in numerous ways, while securing the wealth-hoarders. Let us raise this and other relevant issues such as soaring fuel prices, inflation, brutal impacts of the lockdown, health crisis, delayed payments under NREGA, enactment of pro-corporate laws such as farm laws & labour codes, sale of public assets etc. throughout this week.

✊? Mark 8th November as Protest Day

5 years back on 8th November, the country came to a stand still. At 8pm the PM announced 500 and 1000 notes to be out of legal tender. The many claims made by the government is now proved to be just lies.  The poor and the marginalized had to bear the brunt of the economic destruction that followed. The economic downturn that was triggered by demonetization has been further deepened by the successive moves like the GST & the lockdown.

? FAN India calls for 8th november to be marked as a protest day and from 8th to 12th a week-long campaign to highlight the impacts of demonetisation and the economic failures in the last 5 years.
Remember, Remember the 8th of November…

What followed was chaos, panic and untold suffering for the poor and the marginalized. The economic downturn that was triggered by demonetization have been further deepened by the successive moves like the GST & the lockdown.

The many claims made by the government is now proved to be just lies. The article here is a part of a series that the Centre for Financial Accountability has put together with Scroll looking back at the five years of demonetization.

Five years later, it’s even more clear that demonetization was a disaster for India
The move brought about a policy-induced crisis for the country and did little to stop the flow of black money.
