UK RESIDENTS OF HISTORIC VILLAGE MADDOKE, MOGA DHARMIC JORR MELA 2025

The UK residents of historic village Madokke, in Moga converged to Leicestershire last week to celebrate the visits of Sri Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji to their Village In 1631.  Sri Akhand Pathh Sahib Ji began on Thursday 31st July at Gurdwara Sri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji, 48 Kenilworth Drive, Oadby, Leicestershire with Bhog on Saturday 2 August 2025.  During the three days countless members of Sadh Sangat Ji did sewa of listening to Gurbani, preparing and serving Guru Ka Langar, Serving Deg, Chaur Sahib Ji di sewa. Priest of the Gurdwara Sahib Giani Daljit  Singh Ji did Sarbat day Bhalay di Ardas. On behalf of the Gurdwara Sahib A Garland of Honour { Saropa } was presented  to Gavandeep Kaur, resident of Madokke village and prayers were also said for the Charddi Kla of Maddoke village and Gavandeep Kaur Ji.

Gurdwara Sahib’s Kirtan Jatha Gursewak Singh Ji and Diljit Singh Ji recited Kirtan and famous Dhadi Jatha of Bhai Rasaal Singh Ji Dhadi Jatha sang Ballads for an hour and informed the Sadh Sangat ji about Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji’s visits to Maddoke village.  Rasaal Singh Ji also made the congregation aware of Sikh history which was as usual very much appreciated by everyone.

In 1631, Sri Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji arrived at the site of Gurdwara Gurusar Sahib, Maddoke, Moga, Punjab, India.  On Sri Guru HarGobind Sahib’s first visit, Guru Ji met Mata Bhago Ji and someother Sikhs.  At the time a thief was stealing buffaloes from the village Malvani and keeping them at village Maddoke under disguise.  Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji asked for the buffaloes to be washed and to everyone’s surprise their colour changed from black to brown.  From here Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji travelled via Meharo, Moga Ghal Kalan to Daroli Bai Ki.

Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji’s 2nd visit was after the battle of Mehraj where the Sikhs crushed the Mughal aggressors in a defensive battle.  Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji travelled via Kangar Takhatupura Chatkar, Lopon and Daudhar to Maddoke.  Guru Ji had come to meet Madho Dass, a religious man, and then crossing the Satluj river, went to Kartarpur.  There is a tree in the Gurdwara complex that was dry.  Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji gave the tree water and made it green again.  There are two Gurdwaras here, a Manji Sahib where Guru Ji would rest and Darbar Sahib where Guru Ji would hold diwans and meet the sangat.

One of the Maddoke Village Dharmic Jorr Mela organisers Kamaljit Kaur Dhaliwal from Leicester said “ I am very proud to be from the village where 6th Sikh Guru Ji, Sri Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji , Miri Piri dey Malak who had visited our village 2 times { 16th 17th 18thmonth of Sawan} and 31 July 1st and 2nd August in 1631 and in memory of their visit  all off our friends and family from the same and surrounding villages celebrate these days.  This year it is the 99th Jorr Mela. And since July 2024 we started to celebrate it hereat Gurdwara Sri Guru HarKrishan Sahib Ji, Oadby, Leicestershire.  With the blessings of Maharaj Ji Kirpa, we will carry once Guru Ji’s historical visit to Maddokke Pind.”

Sukhwinder Kaur Grewal Ji from London commented” First of all our heartfelt gratitude to Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji who shown mercy on all of us Maddoke Sadh Sangat Ji, that we get an opportunity to celebrate these days which are very close to our hearts.  We feel so blessed to share some memorable time together.  I feel very thankful to everyone

’s presence which has made this celebration extra special.  And a very special thanks to my dear sister Kamal, who always makes this possible by her hard work and efforts.  Best wishes from myself and my family.

Another attendee from Madokke Pind Sukhi {Sran} Kooner from London said “The Akhand Pathh Sahib was organised well for not only to take time out to pray but for connecting with our roots and our village.  It was nice to meet everyone from the Pind after a very long time.  It took me back to my childhood. “

Baljeet Kaur Sandhu from Birmingham was pleased to attend the celebrations and pointed out” I want to say a big thank you to Kamal Bhen for organising Pathh, her friends and Leicester Sadh Sangat who always help, support and welcome us.”

The organisers of the celebrations from Maddoke Pind would lile to thank Sri Guru Granth Sahib, gurdwara Management Committee, Giani Sahibaan and Leicester Sadh Sangat Ji would did Sewa with tan, man and dhan .

President of the Gurdwara Sahib congratulated all the Maddoke and surrounding Pinds for celebrating the historical visits of Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji to Maddoke Pind and thanked all the volunteers during the Sri Akhand Pathh Sahib.  The stage was managed by Gurjit Singh Samra who said it was great to see the whole village getting together and organising the celebration together and staying in contact with their religion and roots.
