(Samajweekly) Kurukshetra, – “To get cemented in teaching profession, we have to understand the educational needs of the students with empathy” believes, former Vice Chancellor M.M. Goel, retired Professor from Kurukshetra University.
He was addressing online Gurudakshta-Faculty Induction Programme organised by UGC-HRDC in collaboration with Dept. of Education, Kurukshetra University today on the topic ‘Excellence Models for Teachers in Changing Economic Scenario Post Pandemic’. Dr. Rajvir Singh, Chairperson and coordinator of the programme welcomed and presented citation on the achievements of Prof. Goel.
He made a case for treating higher education as a highly valuable service that has a price tag and not a heavily subsidized commodity.
To keep the higher education within the reach of poor aspirants, there a case for effective monitoring and regulation of the private sector under PPP model, told Prof. Goel.
To improve functioning of educational institutions, we require street smart teachers with effective leadership qualities, told Goel.
A teaching job is beyond the border of profession and vocation simply earning the livelihood, to be carried out with a sense of mission, said Prof. Goel.
The fraternity of teachers deserve to be known as children of Sarswati in the knowledge economy of India where ‘Sarswati’ is equally if not more than ‘Lakshmi is worshipped, said Prof. Goel.
We need to become good teachers if not great teachers to be the messenger of knowledge for nurturing the maturity and character of the students, believes Prof. Goel.
We need to accept the challenge of competition with the foreign universities by providing spiritual training to teachers to be unique, told Prof. Goel.
