Suprised by audience’s consumption of superstition based shows: Girija Oak

New Delhi,   Actress Girija Oak is surprised to see the Indian audience’s increasing interest in television shows which promote superstitions.

“More than makers, I am extremely surprised to see so much consumption from the audience’s side… Many people blame makers for making such shows, but there is a section of people who love to watch those shows,” Girija told IANS here.

According to her, the makers are creating such shows because they are “getting highest TRPs” in today’s time.

“Everybody is here to do business. Whatever sells is going to be made… If such shows are getting consumed and being watched then ofcourse they are going to be made by markers. No one is sitting here do philanthropy,” she said.

However, at the same time she feels there is a need of having good creativity, certain type of class and logic in the content of television shows.

Girija said: “There lies a big responsibility on makers as a whole to feed the audience with some small doses of interesting content so that there taste develops. Like film industry, there should also television appreciation workshops.”

The 30-year-old, who has featured in Hindi movies like “Taare Zameen Par” and “Shor in the City”, is currently working in Sony Entertainment Television’s recently launched show “Ladies Special”.

While talking about the show, Girija revealed that she was scared to join the show as she finds Hindi television very different from reality.

“It was not an easy decision for me to join the serial because Hindi television is quite far away from reality… Not all shows…barring a few.

“I don’t know people who wear such saris at home like Hindi shows portray… It is an amplified reality. It is very much unrelatable to me. So I did not want to fall into a trap something like that.”

But when Girija read the script of “Ladies Special” and had a meeting with Vipul D. Shah regarding the show, she found the concept of the show quite unique and relatable, and made her join the show.

She said: “The show deals with life of three Indian women, who have their dreams which they want to achieve. I found the show different from the other serials…This show offered me what I did not find in other shows. It is real which every Indian women could relate to.”

Apart from Girija, “Ladies Special” features actors Chhavi Pandey and Bijal Joshi in the lead roles.
