Spain to hold general election on April 28: PM

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez

Madrid,  Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on Friday that the country will hold early general election on April 28, paving the way for the beginning of campaigning.

Sánchez, 46, of the Socialist Party, said he was asking for the Parliament to dissolve and for the polls to be held one month before regional elections in the country, Efe news agency reported.

“I have proposed the dissolution of Parliament and call for elections on April 28,” Sánchez was quoted as saying.

Sanchez came to power in June by triggering a successful no-confidence vote against his predecessor Mariano Rajoy’s minority conservative Popular Party government.
