SHRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI GURPURB CELEBRATED BY THOUSANDS AT LEICESTRSHIRE’s OADBY GURDWARA SAHIB

(Samaj Weekly)- Sahib-E-Kamaal Dhan Dhan Dasmesh Guru SHRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI de Aagman Parkash Purab { Guru Gobind Singh birthday}was celebrated at the Gurdwara Shri Guru HarKrishan Sahib, Kenilworth Drive, Oadby, Leicestershire by thousands with Perbhat Feri, continuous reading of Sikh scripture Shri Guru Granth Sahib and Health is Wealth event.

The tenth Guru of the Sikh faith Guru Gobind Singh was born in 1699 at Shri Patna Sahib in the Bihar state of India whose parents were Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib and Mata Gujri Ji. Guru Ji wifes names were Ajit Kaur Ji, Sunder Kaur Ji and Sahib Kaur Ji. Baba Ajit Singh Ji, Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh ji were his four Sahibzaday [sons]. Guru Ji attained Guruship for 33 years, created the everlasting KHALSA PANTH at Anandpur Sahib on Vaisakhi 1699, established holy cities of Paunta Sahib at the shore of river Yamuna in 1684 and Muktsar Guru Kashi Damdma Sahib 1706. The Tenth Master compiled the following Bani – Jaap Sahib, Akaal Ustuti Sahib, Chaupai Sahib, Bachitar Naatak, Swauye, Shabad Hajare and Zafarnama.

Perbhat Feri – hymn singing around the vicinity of the Gurdwara Sahib took place on Saturday 13th January from 6,00 am to 6,30 am in the freezing cold after which Kirtan {Hymn Singing} performed in the Diwan Hall.

Shri Akhand Pathh Sahib – continuous reading of the Sikh scripture Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was organised from 7.00 pm on 15th January with Bhog {completion} 5.00 pm on day of Gurpurb 17th January. After the Hymn singing by resident priests of the Gurdwara, Katha {sermon} was done by Giani Gopal Singh Ji from USA. Famous Dhadi Jatha of Giani Rasaal Singh Ji from the West Midlands made the congregation aware of the life and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji from 7.00 to 8.00 pm. Ardass {Sikh prayer} was said for the good health of everyone and world peace. Guru Ka Langar {Vegetarian Food} was provided for the three days to everyone who attended the place of worship.

Health is Wealth was held on Sunday 21st January from 10 am – 1 pm when stalls from Pure Wellness, British Heart Foundation, Yoga, Ayurvedic, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust took place most of them with 3 feet by 6 feet pull up displays giving details of service provided. Sonia Kainth from Severn Trent and Balinder Singh Samra from Khalsa Aid International could not attend due to unavoidable circumstances.

Dr. Sonal Bhavsar who did the ‘Indived ‘Ayurvedic stall said “Health is Wealth was a very successful event. I had lot of enquiries from people of all different ages who were interested about Ayurvedic lifestyle. I would recommend this type of health of event is held more in future and sincerely like to thank the organisers.”

Cheryl Wimperis who did the Yoga stall and teach regular yoga classes for all abilities and ages as well as provide nutritional and wellbeing support to help improve and mental and physical health maintain commented “Lovely atmosphere and community event that provided a great opportunity for people to find out solutions at a welcome event. Very calm and relaxed environment that had stalls provided so members of the public could enquire about health conditions that are difficult to talk about. Well done organisers. “

British Heart Foundation Ambassador Sulakhan Singh Dard BEM pointed out that we must do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise daily especially people of South Asian origin as heart disease rates among them are very high. Apart from this extra care should be taken about the unhealthy oily fatty food that is put inside the mouth. Doing regular exercise and eating a balanced healthy diet is simply the best way to keep heart disease away.

The Guest of \Honour was Chairman of the Leicestershire County Council Dr. Kevin Feltham who worked over five decades in the NHS speaking from the stage of the Gurdwara said he was pleased to be invited to the Health is Wealth event that has variety of different health issue stalls in celebration of the birthday of the tenth Sikh Guru.

President of the Gurdwara Harjinder Singh Rai informed the congregation that in the previous Health Event held in July last year the Chairman chose to have the Dastar tied on his head, It is simply great that this time the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council Dr. Kevin Feltham came to the Gurdwara having tied the Dastar on his head himself.

Organiser of the event Punjabi Listeners |Club Co-Ordinator Tarlochan Singh Virk thanked the Gurdwara Management, stall holders, Pakistan Yatra |Tours’ |Kamaljit Kaila Ji, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities SOAS University of London Professor Gurharpal Singh BSc MA PhD, Dr. Sandeep Singh and Jaskaran Singh Ghuman for all their help in making the Health is Wealth great success.
