Patna, (Samajweekly) Patna Police is yet to make any arrest for the sensational murder of Indigo Airlines station manager Rupesh Kumar Singh two days ago even as officials claimed on Thursday that criminals had used 7.65mm countrymade pistol in the crime.
Though police had not shared any information on the murder weapon, sources said that it was made in Munger and hence indicated towards the involvement of local criminals.
Seven bullet shells have been seized from the spot, five from the SUV Rupesh was travelling in and two from outside.
“The assailants first fired at Rupesh’s SUV. As the windshield shattered, they fired at him from pointblank range that led to his death on the spot on Tuesday evening,” an officer said on the condition of anonymity.
“We have some leads, including CCTV footage, and are analyising the same. We will soon catch the criminals involved,” an officer at Shastri Nagar police station said.
Rupesh was on official assignment pertaining to transport of coronavirus vaccines by an Indigo flight on Tuesday evening. He was last seen with Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey, who along with other officials was present at the Patna airport to receive the consignment.
Meanwhile, Union Minister RK Singh, an MP from Bhojpur, slammed the Patna police for its “inability” to prevent crime in the state capital.
“It’s a miserable situation vis-a-vis law and order in Patna. The Chief Minister should suspend top officials, including SSP Upendra Sharma, for failure to prevent crime. What was police doing at that place? Punaichak locality is just 500 meters from Patna’s New Secretariat and police is deployed there,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed DGP SK Singhal to ensure the arrest of the criminals at the earliest and ensure speedy trial in the case.
