SAMAJ WEEKLY, UK-
Dear Friends,
During the last three years, I have been traversing through the regions which are part of the Gangetic valley civilisation right from the places in the Himalayas where it rises and descends to the gangetic plains of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. I have completed the journey, at least the ;part in India as recently covered Bengal and the Sundarban Islands, mainly the Sagardwip which is popularly known as Ganga Sagar.
The entire journey has given me insight about the crisis that we are facing or what is being termed as climate crisis apart from the making and unmaking of various empires and history on Ganga. I have documented things and written extensively. That apart, I have made several documentaries on each of these states where the Ganges passes through. I will be sharing my experiences wherever and whenever needed and asked for or requested.
The journey has not ended frankly as I plan to explore more in the Himalayan region particularly highlighting the issues of small rivers and riverines. The reason for taking up this initiative was not merely environmental concerns but also engagement and involvement of the communities who have nurtured these rivers over the years and have been excluded in all the debates and discussions related to the crisis. I also hope to travel to Bangladesh to carry forward the remaining part of my journey provided I get the visa and the situation returns to normal there.
Sharing this interview of mine recently published on the completion of the journey. Will be sharing videos and analysis in the coming days.
With warm regards,
Vidya Bhushan Rawat
