New Delhi,  The Union Home Ministry will hold a high-level meeting on Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday next week, said a Ministry source on Thursday.

The meeting would be attended by secretaries of government of India and would be chaired by newly appointed Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

The meeting would discuss Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 that bifurcated the region in two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir with an Assembly and Ladakh without one.

Additional Secretary (J&K Division) Gyanesh Kumar will also attend the meeting as his department deals general policy matters in respect of Jammu and Kashmir and terrorism in that region.

Bhalla, a 1984-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer, who is currently serving as officer on special duty, will chair the meeting on Tuesday after taking over as Home Secretary on Monday, said the source, requesting anonymity.

It would be Bhalla’s first formal meeting on the sensitive issue because Jammu and Kashmir has been facing restrictions since August 5 night when the government scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution which gave special powers to J&K.
