(Samaj Weekly)- Liam Byrne, MP for Hodge Hill and Shadow Mayor of the West Midlands said:

‘I’m absolutely delighted that our Commonwealth Games has risen to the challenge I set to become the first zero carbon games in history.

‘I’m determined our region, the home of the industrial revolution should now lead Britain’s Green Industrial Revolution and become the first net zero carbon region in the country.

‘These Games will be the best Games ever and they’re our chance to tell the 1.5 billion people watching around the world that the West Midlands, once the workshop of the world is back in business as the Green Workshop of a greener planet.

‘In these Games we’ll be judged not just by the medals we win but by the lives we change. That’s why I’m determined the legacy will be to enshrine our place as the green heart of Britain with a green industrial revolution that brings 200,000 green collar jobs to the region, rebuilds a Commonwealth Jubilee forest across our green and pleasant land and uses culture and sport to bring our diverse communities together in a decade of togetherness’.
