Wuhan (China), Anett Kontaveit of Estonia won 6-4, 6-4 over Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the quarter-final action on Thursday at the Wuhan Open, a WTA hard court event.
Kontaveit needed one hour and 35 minutes to get revenge for her recent defeat by Siniakova in the 2018 US Open first round, reports Efe news.
Earlier Thursday, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, China’s Qiang Wang and Australia’s Ashleigh Barty advanced to the semi- finals after eliminating Dominika Cibulkova, Olympic champion Monica Puig of Puerto Rico and Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, respectively.
Semi-final duels are scheduled for Friday, with WTA stating: “Ashleigh Barty is the only seeded player still standing and faces a tough encounter with Aryna Sabalenk.”
The other semi-final clash will be pitting Kontaveit against Wang; both have never previously played against each other, according to the WTA website.
