KING CHARLES 3rd SENDS WARMEST GOOD WISHES TO PUNJABI LISTENERS CLUB LEICESTER

(SAMAJ WEEKLY)- A voluntary organisation, Punjabi Listeners Club formed on the 3rd Anniversary of BBC Radio Leicester’s Punjabi Programme on 9 th September 1995 which organised Coronation of King Charles 3rd party celebrations in Oadby, Leicestershire last year has received letter from Buckingham Palace in which The King has asked Sarah Helferty, Director of Operations , Private Secretary’s Office to convey his most sincere thanks for the kind and thoughtful message sent to His Majesty The King by Tarlochan Singh Virk, Co-ordinator of the Listeners Club.

The letter further stated “It was so considerate of you to take the trouble to write. His Majesty has asked me to send you his warmest good wishes. “. The Listener’s Club has raised thousands of pounds for UK registered charities such as Wishes4Kids, Children In Need, Lord Mayor’s Charities, Roko Cancer, Khalsa Aid International, etc.

Mr. Virk received the letter from Buckingham Palace in response to the two GET WELL SOON cards sent by the club when His Majesty The King was diagnosed with Cancer, one of which was signed by neighbours of him and the other was filled with messages by all those who attended the International Mother Language Day celebrations at Wigston Library. The King has since made good recovery and started doing normal activities.

Sikh Community leader Gurnam Singh Ex-General Secretary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara pointed out that Punjabi Listeners Club is an excellent example of voluntary work which has not only been organising programmes without any financial help but have also raised thousands of pounds for good causes. As for its Co-ordinator Mr. Virk, I personally presented him with the Punjabis in Britain All Party Parliamentary Group Award for Promoting Punjabi Language and Culture in the presence of Sikh Scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 2010 as he was unable to collect it from House of Commons due to injury. And the year before he was one of two people from UK who were invited to the 6th Annual Sikh American Heritage Dinner at Capitol Hill, Washington DC, USA.
