Kargil Day: Bikers team visits Captain Batra’s city

Palampur: Parents of captain Vikram Batra, PVC (P) with Kargil victory motorcycle expedition team, who has reached Palampur, Himachal Pradesh the birthplace of captain Vikram Batra from Kargil war memorial, to celebrate 20 years of Kargil victory, on July 14, 2019. Jammu, To celebrate 20 years of Kargil victory, a motorcycle expedition team on Sunday reached Palampur, birth place of Captain Vikram Batra who was awarded posthumously the Param Vir Chakra, from Manali through the Kargil war memorial.

“One of its kind expedition by 13th Battalion of the JAKRIF from Manali, through the Kargil war memorial, reached Palampur today,” a Defence Ministry statement said here.

The arrival of expedition team turned the city (Palampur) emotional. The team members met the Veer Naris, war veterans, the next of kins of martyrs and paid homage to martyrs.

“It was a special day for the proudest parents of Capt. Vikram Batra. The expedition team members met the proud parents, shared their admiration and love for their brave son,” the statement said.

Batra laid down his life in the service of the nation on July 7, 1999 during the Kargil war. Because of his bravery, in Pakistani message intercepts available with the Indian Army, Batra was referred to as ‘Sher Shah’ (Lion King).
