New Delhi, CBI interim Director M. Nageswara Rao, who holds Joint Director post, was on Tuesday promoted to the rank of Additional Director, Ministry of Personnel said.
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet gave its nod to promote Rao, a 1986-batch Odisha cadre Indian Police Service officer, for the post “till the completion of his approved tenure in CBI, or until further orders, whichever is earlier”.
Rao is handling charge of interim Central Bureau of Investigation Director since government’s October 23 order sending the agency’s Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana on forced leave divesting of their powers following a spat between them over corruption charges.
A postgraduate in Chemistry from Osmania University in Hyderabad, Rao undertook research at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, before joining the IPS. He joined the CBI in 2016 as Joint Director.
