India suspends all tourist visas and e-visas for travellers

The Government of India has announced that it will suspend all existing visitor visas for India due to the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). This change will come into effect from 12:00 GMT 13th March 2020 to 15th April 2020 at the port of departure.

A revised travel advisory has been issued by the Government of India after a group of Ministers met under the chairmanship of Indian Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Civil Aviation Minister S. Hardeep Singh Puri Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India.

“All existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/international organizations, employment, project visas, stand suspended till 15th April 2020,” it has said in the statement.

Visa free travel via the #OCI card has also been suspended.

Indian nationals are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel. Upon their return to India they maybe subject to a minimum 14 day quarantine. Anyone wishing to travel for emergency reasons may contact the local Indian embassy.

If you’re abroad and you need emergency help from the UK government, contact the nearest British embassy, consulate or high commission. Consular support is severely limited in parts of India where the FCO advise against all travel and limited where the FCO advise against all but essential travel.
