Health, Sports ministries join hands to promote ‘Fit India’

New Delhi, The Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju jointly announced on Friday that their respective ministries will now cooperate under a framework for greater visibility and synergy in popularising fitness among various age groupsin the country .

“Synergetic nationwide activities of the two ministries will be organised soon for fitness and wellness under the Fit India Movement” Harsh Vardhan said.

“The ministry will engage with all institutions of the Health Ministry along with other medical institutions and organisations such as IMA to create nationwide consciousness about fitness and wellness,” he added.

On the occasion, the Union Sports Minister said: “The thrust for popularising the ‘Fit India Movement’ shall now see convergence of activities of both the ministries as the goal of this national movement is to encourage people towards positive, preventive and promotive health and wellness.”

“Even simple actions such as walking, cycling, stretching during our office and work hours, along with gyming and jogging help in keeping us fit and healthy,” Rijiju added.
