Gujarat bypolls: 58.14% polling across 8 seats

Gandhinagar, (Samajweekly) Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S. Muralikrishna has said an overall 58.14 per cent polling was registered across the state Assembly’s eight constituencies, by election for which was held on Tuesday.

“From the figures we have obtained, an overall 58.14 of polling was registered,” said Gujarat CEO S. Muralikrishna.

According to the CEO, the maximum polling was registered in the tribal region of Dangs, where 74.71 per cent voters exercised their rights.

The Kaprada constituency registered polling of 67.34 per cent while 65.94 per cent polling was recorded in Karjan constituency. Kutch region constituency of Abdasa registered 61.31 per cent polling.

Limdi recorded 56.04 per cent of polling, while Morbi recorded 51.88 per cent polling.

From Gadhada, the Scheduled Caste-reserved seat, 47.86 per cent voters exercised their rights and the least voter turnout was registered in Dhari constituency — 45.74 per cent.

“Overall, the by election was peaceful and there were no untoward incident. We have received 17 written complaints regarding the violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). While taking Suo Moto cognizance of MCC violations from news channels, we are looking into 19 cases. Out of all these complaints, the police have filed FIR in four cases, two in Karjan and 1 each in Morbi and Dangs,” added Murlikrishna.

The CEO informed that surprisingly not a single Covid-19 patient turned up to cast his or her vote, despite the administration making all the arrangements for such patients.
