Bandipora (Jammu and Kashmir), Congress’ former Jammu and Kashmir legislator Usman Majeed on Sunday resigned from the party.
Majeed told IANS that he has sent his letter of resignation to party’s interim President Sonia Gandhi.
“I have resigned from the Congress to join hands with like-minded people for filling the political vacuum in J&K,” he said.
Majeed accused the Congress of being primarily responsible for erosion of the special status of J&K.
“There is a disconnect between administration and the people, the need of the hour is bridge that disconnect,” he said.
Usman is among around two dozen leaders forming a new political party in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Yes it is a group of like minded people which will form a new political party in Kashmir,” he said.
The new party with prominent faces like former PDP minister Altaf Bukhari is likely to be launched early March.
