(Samaj Weekly)- The University of Delhi in its response to implement the new scheme under University grants commission regulation 2018 for Indian universities for teaching fraternity started promoting teachers to professor level in undergraduate colleges.
In the light of the newly introduced National education policy 2020 in India after 35 years opens a Vista of research at the undergraduate level, the promotional avenue to teachers up to the Professor level in these colleges is an important decision.
In this series, V S Negi, an undergraduate teacher in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College became the first Professor of Geography amongst teacher’s in UG colleges of the University of Delhi under this scheme.
V S Negi, a geographer by training, is an expert on Himalayan Eco-System Studies and Disaster management. He is traditionally teaching Population Geography, Settlement Geography, Cartography, and Resource Management since last 28 years said that after becoming Professor of Geography he will concentrate on undertaking more students to field-oriented research and studies to current topics like climate change, health, and environment, mitigation of resource exploitation and disasters in urban and rural habitat.
Professorship to UG college teacher s is widely welcomed all around by people in the University of Delhi as 200 such Professors are awaiting to the designated promotion in the coming months.
Dr. VS Negi, also a member of the Executive Council University of Delhi said It’s important to mention that Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” Education Minister of India, and Prof PC Joshi Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s team are the forces behind attaining such a positive change in academia.
