Delhi Metro on red alert

New Delhi,  The Metro network has been put on red alert since 6 p.m, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said here on Wednesday.

The red alert indicates the highest level of security risk and is sounded only in extreme situations. The circular was issued apparently in the wake of ongoing escalation of military activities between India and Pakistan.

“As advised by security agencies, the red alert has been declared in the entire DMRC network. Under the red alert, all station controllers are required to inspect entire station premises for any suspicious items/activity, including parking lots, and report the status to the control centre every two hours,” read the DMRC advisory.

The CISF said security at all stations has been beefed up and extra vigil will be observed through the duration of the alert.

“We will maintain extra vigilance on the movement inside the stations and surrounding areas,” CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh told IANS.
