Madrid, Champion of the 2018 Vuelta a España Simon Yates (Mitchelton) has announced his comeback to the Giro d’Italia in 2019.
The British cyclist decided to participate in the three-week race in 2019, as he still has a victory to claim after being close to defending the 2018 title until a downfall at stage 19, reports Efe news.
“I will be returning to the Giro d’Italia next year. I am looking forward to it and I have great memories from last year with three stage wins. But of course I would like to go back and try finish the job off,” Yates said in a video made available by Giro d’Italia’s official Twitter account on Monday.
“It looks very difficult as always with the Giro, and next year with three time trials it could be very tricky, may be don’t suit me perfectly, but I have to go and try to win anyway,” he added.
The 26-year-old Yates had earned three stage victories and maintained the overall leader’s pink jersey for 13 days in 2018.
