Convoy carrying UK, Belgium PMs in ‘accident’, two officers injured

Brussels,   Two police officers escorting British Prime Minister Theresa May and Belgium’s Charles Michel were flung to the ground after an accident on a motorway in Belgium, local media reported Friday.

The incident happened as May and Michel were travelling from a remembrance event at St. Symphorien Military Cemetery in southern Belgian city of Mons, ahead of the centenary of the end of the First World War on Sunday.

Two police motorcycles were knocked over by a car in the collision and the officers were taken to hospital.

Michel’s spokesman described the incident as an “unfortunate accident”, according to Belgian newspaper De Standaard.
