Congress protests attack on party candidate in Tripura

Agartala,  The Congress on Sunday organised a road blockade to protest the attack on their candidate Subal Bhowmik in southern Tripura.

“At least eight Congressmen were injured, three of them seriously, when BJP workers attacked a road show of Subal Bhowmik. He, however, narrowly escaped the attack,” Congress leader and former state party chief Gopal Roy told the media.

Roy said after the incident, took place at Tulamura in southern Tripura’s Gomati district, the agitated Congress workers immediately held a road blockade to protest the incident. It was withdrawn after election and senior police officials assured action against the assailants.

A police official said that they are looking for the attackers.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party denied the involvement of their party members in the incident.

Tripura BJP’s former Vice President, Bhowmik, along with two other senior party leaders, rejoined the Congress two weeks ago.
