New Delhi, The Congress on Wednesday said the Gujarat High Court has sent notices to the Returning Officer (RO) and the general observer of Dholka constituency over an election petition filed by party candidate pertaining to 2017 Assembly election in the state and urged officials to work impartially and without fear during the Lok Sabha polls as their actions will be under judicial scrutiny.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the court had noted that many instructions of the Election Commission had been violated at the time of counting of votes.
Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, a Minister in the Gujarat government, had won from Dholka by 327 votes. Congress leader Ashwin Rathod had alleged that 429 postal ballots were wrongly invalidated leading to his defeat.
Singhvi said that the number of rejected postal ballots were more than the winning margin of 327 votes of Chudasama.
He said the party was making a serious point that it is “almost a message from the judiciary to every officer, observer or Returning Officer engaged in the election process for the next five or six weeks to do his work sincerely”.
