Balley Sahib’s writings should be taken to the masses – Professor Balbir
Jalandhar (Samajweekly) Lahori Ram Balley Memorial Committee celebrated the 96th birthday of the great thinker, writer, fearless speaker, eminent Ambedkarite, founder trustee of Ambedkar Bhawan Jalandhar, founder of Ambedkar Mission Society, reviver of All India Samata Sainik Dal and editor-in-chief of Bhim Patrika, late Lahori Ram Balley, with great pomp at his residence. The event began after the recitation of Buddha Bandana, Trisharan and Panchsheel by Dhammanchari Achal Kirti (Baldev Raj Jassal). Senior Ambedkarite Dr. G. C. Kaul said in his speech that when we were young and studying in school, our people did not even know how to mention Baba Saheb’s name. Instead of Ambedkar, they used to say Umaidgar. If someone talked about Baba Saheb Ambedkar or talked about his struggle, there was a lot of opposition to him. We cannot say that RPI conferences were held in villages, 20-20, 25-25 people were gathered and their meetings were held. They also faced a lot of opposition. Balley Saheb’s associates, Hazara Ram Bodhi and Bihari Lal Khar, who could be counted on the fingers, used to come to villages on bicycles. Stools and carpet were kept on their bicycles. Wherever in the village, some people were found sitting under a peepal tree or playing cards, he would tell them that let’s talk about Baba Saheb. When people turned 70-80, they would stand on stools and give speeches. From this, one can guess how much struggle Bali Sahib must have had to go through. The book he wrote, ‘Dr. Ambedkar Life and Mission’, brought a lot of awareness. Balley Sahib’s life was a great sacrifice. President of Ambedkar Mission Society (Regd.) Punjab, Professor Balbir Ji, while congratulating on Shri Balley Ji’s birthday, said that the person whose birthday we are celebrating, did not stop, did not fear, did not bow down and did not sell out. When no one could speak, Balley Sahib has been writing in Bheem Patrika since 1958. He said that the birthdays of such great men should not be celebrated in other places, but in open ground. He did not change his principles and remained steadfast on his principles. Those who became ministers today also salute him. Professor Balbir said that the writings of Balley Sahib should be taken to the masses.
Missionary companions Jagdish Kumar Dalia, Kamal Kumar, Suraj Virdi, Dr. Mahendra Sandhu and Vishal Gorka discussed the untouched points of Sri Lahori Ram Balley and warned about the dangers facing the Dalit society in modern India. In the event, Jyoti Prakash Mehmi (Jaitewali) was honored by the Lahori Ram Balley Memorial Committee with the ‘Lahori Ram Balley Memorial Award’ for his Ambedkarite services. Earlier, missionary singer Jeevan Mehmi, missionary lyricist Ratu Randhawa and singer Prem Lata were also honored in the presence of Balley Sahib. After the demise of Balley Sahib, dedicated Ambedkarite and Buddhist Shri Bhisham Pal Singh was honored in 2024 and missionary singer Sunny Saleem in 2025. On this occasion, Dr. Charanjit Singh, Malkit Singh, Pishori Lal Sandhu, Nirmal Binji, Hitesh Kumar, Ram Saroop Bali, Dhyatam Sallan, Amjad Beg, Harbhajan Nimta, Vishal Bali, DP Bhagat, Om Prakash, Karam Chand, Ram Prakash, Sunita Bhardwaj, Manjit Kaur, Paramjit Kaur and Surinder Kaur etc. were present.
