The recent theft of cash, gold, and silver from the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has shocked many people. Workers inside the temple were caught using hidden cameras stealing directly from the donation counting rooms. They even set up fake QR codes to steal money meant for the temple. This scandal led to the arrest of eight people and forced top temple officials to resign.
For the BJP and the RSS, this is not just a police case, it is a massive political problem.
1. A Broken Promise to the Voters
The BJP has always promised a clean, honest government, free of corruption. They also collected small donations (chanda) from millions of ordinary people who gave their hard-earned money out of deep religious faith.
Finding out that temple insiders were stealing these sacred gifts feels like a deep betrayal. It breaks the trust of the BJP’s most loyal voters and ruins the party’s clean image.
2. Arguments Inside the Party
The temple was meant to unite everyone. Instead, the theft has started a big argument within the RSS-BJP family:
(1) The State vs. The Centre: The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, quickly sent in special police to arrest the thieves. This aggressive move put the spotlight on temple officials who were backed by the central leadership in Delhi, showing a clear rift between the local and national leaders.
(2) Priests vs. Bureaucrats: Local holy men (sadhus) in Ayodhya have felt ignored by political officials for a long time. Now, they are angry and are demanding that politicians leave the temple management alone.
(3). Power to the Opposition: For years, opposition parties did not know how to fight the BJP’s massive popularity around the Ram Mandir. Now, they have an easy target. With important state elections coming up in 2027, the opposition is using this scandal to show that the BJP cannot even protect its own most sacred project from thieves.
Conclusion
The Ram Mandir was supposed to be the BJP’s greatest achievement. Instead, because of internal greed, it has turned into an embarrassing problem that has hurt the faith of their own voters and created deep divisions within their own team.
