Bedford Team from UK visited newly acquired site near Saha in Haryana
(Samajweekly) Bedford-based international charity, SEVA Trust UK which is working for the betterment of education, health, environment and social-welfare in England and India, took a major step to establish North India’s first free centre for children of this type. This multi-facility will help disadvantaged children suffering from DMD which is one of the most severe forms of inherited muscular dystrophies along with multi-facility centre offering a wide range free facility.
This project is led by SEVA Trust UK (India), a public charitable trust who is actively working across 15 districts of Haryana and Punjab (India) as part of its social service mission. Registered under the Indian Charitable Trust Act on 3rd March 2017, the Trust is also recognised under the Income Tax Act, 12A(1) and 80G(5) certifications, and is certified under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010. The Trust’s core mission focuses on promoting quality education, healthy living, a clean environment, and women’s empowerment.
Under the guidance of founder and chairman of SEVA Trust UK, Charan Sekhon MBE, SEVA Trust is building “SEVA Dhaam,” a multi-facility care centre, on a 6,655-square-yard plot in Saha near Ambala in Haryana. This facility will offer free physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, kattu therapy, yoga, meditation, and emotional support counselling for children affected DMD. Additionally, the center will house a diagnostic centre, a computer skills training centre for girls, a sewing training and production centre for disadvantaged women, and a daycare centre for vulnerable and elderly citizens. “SEVA Dhaam” aims to serve as a comprehensive care facility, providing much-needed support for disadvantaged communities. Over the past two years, the Trust has been providing free Ayurvedic medicines worth Rs 10,000 per month to eight children in Haryana and Punjab suffering from DMD.
SEVA Trust UK, in partnership with Dabur India, has organised 1,320 programs under the “Healthy India, Healthy Communities” campaign. These initiatives have distributed nutritional supplements and health products worth over Rs 8 crore (Rs 80 million), benefiting 625,417 individuals, including school children, elderly home residents, slum dwellers, sanitation workers, Asha workers, and athletes from disadvantaged background.
As part of its women’s empowerment mission, SEVA Trust UK has collaborated with Usha International and SIDBI to establish 110 sewing centres, empowering hundreds of women to become financially independent. Additionally, under its “Green India, Green Earth” initiative, the Trust has conducted a plantation drive, planting 4,750 trees to promote environmental sustainability.
Over the past three years, SEVA Trust UK has set a remarkable record by organising 124 blood donation camps, collecting 13,401 units of blood.
SEVA Trust UK Chairman Charan Sekhon MBE and SEVA Trust UK (India) Chairman Naresh Mittal along with District Coordinators Shaminder Singh Garcha from Bedford and supported by Joga Singh and Surinder Singh from Peterborough, all visited the newly acquired site where construction will commence this month. They met with the managing committee and other leading members and volunteers to discuss about this landmark project that included Vice Chairman Dr. Varinder Jain Malerkotla, Trustee Vivek Sharma, Devender Dhiman Saha, Rimple Chauhan, CA Vagish Sharma, Pawan Parashar, Baljinder Kumar, Pankaj Chhabra, Vikas Kaushik Jhajjar, Pawan Mittal Kurukshetra, Raj Kumar Garg Kaithal, Ankit Malit Panipat, Manjit Singh Jhajjar, Manish Narnoul, Praveen Vats Sonipat, Gurdeep Singh Ludhiana, Baldev Singh, Gurdev Singh, Naveen Gupta, Gaurav Goyal, Samta Saha, Ashu, Hemlata, and Rakesh Vohra who all are playing key roles in these social service initiatives in India.
