Patna, (Samajweekly) A day after saying that his wish to go to the Rajya Sabha was not fulfilled in his political career, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday clarified that he does not have any personal interest in going to the upper house of the Parliament.
“Actually, the journalists had asked about my interest to go to the Rajya Sabha, and I replied to them that I don’t have personal interest in it,” he said.
However, journalists on Wednesday had asked him what his stand would be if the BJP sent him to the Rajya Sabha, and he had said that his wish to go to Rajya Sabha was not fulfilled yet.
Following his statement on Wednesday, speculation arose in political circle across Bihar whether Nitish Kumar would go to the Centre and become the Vice President and the post of the Chief Minister will be given to the BJP.
“During my initial political career, I used to visit several places and always thought about going to the Parliament one day. I was elected MLA for the first time in 1985 and Lok Sabha member in 1989. After that I became state and cabinet ministers in the Centre and Chief Minister in Bihar for 4 times,” Nitish Kumar clarified on Thursday.
However, RJD leaders reacted strongly to Nitish Kumar’s statement.
Chief spokesman Bhai Virendra said: “Nitish Kumar is known as Kursi Kumar in Bihar… that everyone knows. I doubt that he would sacrifice the post of Chief Minister for becoming a Rajya Sabha member. There is a definite internal political pact between him and the top leadership of the saffron party (BJP) for the post of Vice President or President.”
