(Samaj Weekly)- Liam Byrne, Labour’s candidate for West Midlands Mayor, has backed Erdington’s bid to the Levelling Up Fund saying it will “put the heart back into the High Street”.
The bid, which is currently being drafted by Birmingham City Council and Jack Dromey, MP for Erdington, is the latest attempt to secure investment in Erdington High Street after a bid to the Future High Streets Fund was rejected by government on Boxing Day.
On a visit to Erdington High Street, Byrne spoke to local businesses and stakeholders about the multi-million-pound bid which would create exciting new retail, social, and community spaces that would transform the High Street and help it to thrive in the face of the ever-changing nature of High Streets across the country.
Mr Byrne was joined on the visit by Erdington MP Jack Dromey, who has played a leading role in preparing the ground for the new bid and whose support is required, as the local MP, in order for a bid to be made to the Levelling Up Fund.
Liam Byrne, Labour’s candidate for West Midlands Mayor and MP for Hodge Hill, said:
“Erdington’s bid to the Levelling Up Fund has my full support. It is clear from talking to local people that there is a real enthusiasm in Erdington for much needed investment in the High Street and this will be backed up by an ambitious and detailed plan.
“I am determined to do whatever I can to ensure Birmingham City Council and Jack Dromey are successful with this bid that will put the heart back into the High Street.
“The people of Erdington are proud people, and I want to help them secure a High Street they can be proud of.”
