Barty defeats Muguruza at Hopman Cup

Perth,   Australia’s Ashleigh Barty was victorious 6-3, 6-4 over Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza at the Hopman Cup in Perth on Wednesday, to give her country a 1-0 lead in their Group A tie over Spain.

This is Muguruza’s third consecutive defeat at Hopman Cup as she lost to Germany’s Angelique Kerber in singles 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, reports Efe.

While teaming up with David Ferrer, Muguruza fell to Kerber and her compatriot Alexander Zverev in their mixed doubles match 4-2, 4-3(3) on Sunday.

The Spain-Australia tie will see Ferrer take on Matt Ebden, and the Spanish pair of Muguruza and Ferrer against Barty and Ebden.
