New Delhi, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said that free WiFi facility with high-speed Internet will be available at 6,441 stations across the country by Ganesh Chaturthi this year.
Addressing a press conference after launching a host of railway development projects, the Minister said: “Currently free WiFi facility is available at over 830 stations and 775 more stations will be added to the list by the end of March.”
Goyal said that a MoU was signed between Tata Trust and RailTel to provide WiFi facility at 4,791 railway stations.
“And these stations would also be connected with the high-speed Internet progressively by September 2, on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi,” he said.
He said that the facility will be provided by the Tata Trust under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The Minister said that over 2,400 toilets will be constructed in the circulating area of stations with separate units for men, women and ‘divyangjan’ with low-cost sanitary pads dispenser, incinerator and condom vending machines, through CSR support from corporates like Coal India Ltd. and its subsidiaries.
