Safina Jamal, Local Area Co-Ordinator for Wigston Magna area commented “On Sunday, I attended a health and well-being event at the Gurdwara, which provided a valuable opportunity for the community to come together and learn about important aspects of physical and mental health. The event provided information and advice from professionals, creating a supportive space for open conversations around well-being. It was clear how beneficial these events are in raising awareness, breaking down stigma, and empowering individuals to take proactive steps in caring for their health.
Continuing with such initiatives is essential, as they not only educate people but also strengthen the overall well-being of the community.
INDIVED AYURVEDIC
Dr Sonal Bhavsar, regular stall holder said “The Look After T Your Health 2025 was a very informative event. People who visited my stall, Indived Ayurvedic and Holistic Therapy found it very interesting. Members of the public came to ask me what Ayurvedic is and how it is useful in our life. Ayurvedic lifestyle and herbs help to improve our physical, mental and emotional health. An Ayurvedic Consultation and Nadi Priksha {pulse diagnosis} detect your imbalance. Many attendees found the information provided by me, a qualified Ayurvedic Doctor useful. Overall, the event was successful. I would like to thank Mr. Tarlochan Singh Virk for inviting me and congratulate him for organising the health event.
HEART
It is very important to look after the heart. The heart is a pump that beats 100,000 times a day and pumps 7,000 litres of blood in 60,000 miles of pipeline. It beats 70 times in one minute making one beat less than a second. The most common type of heart disease is coronary heart disease CHD. In order not to get CHD it is essential to avoid eating food with high fat, salt and sugar content. In order to reduce your risk of heart and circulatory diseases angina, heart attack, stroke, vascular dementia one needs to be active daily for 20-30 minutes which can reduce these diseases by 35%.
By physically active, you don’t need to put sports kit and joining the gym. All you have to do is get up from sitting down and start moving around more often. Walking, gardening, housework like vacuuming, taking stairs instead of the lift, swimming or cycling. Finding time can be hard. Try writing a list of everything you do in a day and see where you can find 1 0 minutes or more to be active.
You could start walking to school or work of driving instead, getting off the bus a few stops early or taking the stairs instead of escalator or lift. And the best time to make a change is NOW. You may not like it to start with but it gets easier over time and in the end it will just be a habit that you do without thinking about it.
CHOLESTROL
When there is too much cholesterol in your blood, it builds up in the walls of the arteries leading the arteries to become narrowed and blood flow to the heart muscle is slowed down or blocked. Extra pressure, stress, anger, anxiety, fear and insecurity reduces the relaxation of heart leading the heart to get tired before each beat
Thoughts, emotions, attitudes and memories {TEAM} have an influence on 70-80 trillion cells and entire body. Drinking too much alcohol is one of the most common causes of hospital admissions in UK. This can have harmful effect on the heart.
Meditation, sleep and stress management, strict diet, exercise and medication will dissolve any blockages in the heart, mind and body. On the other hand Hypertension, smoking, obesity and lack of physical activity increases the risk of heart disease. Laughing relaxes and expands blood vessels which protects the heart Drinking lots of water reduces your chances of heart attack by 41%. Fats and oils are high in calories and should be used in small amounts for good heart health.
MENTAL HEALTH
Psychological Health stall holder Devinder Singh Dhesi who was also present at last year’s health event was very pleased to be invited again and pointed out there is a great need for a monthly group meeting so that members of the local community can speak about what is on their mind. One of the best way to reduce stress and improve your mental health is learn your mother-tongue language so that you can learn about your culture, history and religion.
Dr. Sonal Bhavsar said she was very happy about the number of people enquiring about Ayurvedic and Yoga to get rid of their illnesses.
