SAMAJ WEEKLY UK
London, UK – 21 July 2025: The Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) expresses its deep appreciation to the Punjab and Haryana High Court for taking firm and decisive action in the case of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, who was brutally assaulted by Punjab Police personnel in Patiala on March 13, 2025.
The High Court’s decision to summon the head of the Chandigarh Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) and its criticism of the prolonged delay in the probe shows a much-needed judicial commitment to truth and justice. This intervention stands in stark contrast to the shameful silence and inaction of both the Punjab Government and the Central Government, who have failed miserably to protect the rights of an Army officer.
“When a decorated Army Colonel and his son can be beaten in public by state police and no action is taken for months, what hope does an ordinary citizen have?” said Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary, Indian Workers Association (G.B.).
“We commend the High Court for stepping in where the political leadership has failed. The Punjab Government, the Home Ministry, and every institution that stayed silent are complicit in this injustice. The people of India deserve better — they deserve leaders who uphold the rule of law, not shield lawbreakers in uniform.”
The IWA (G.B.) demands the following immediate actions:
The investigation must be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or another neutral and credible body.
All police personnel involved must be suspended and prosecuted.
An official apology and a clear public statement of accountability must be issued by both the Punjab Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister.
There must be a national conversation about police reform, civilian rights, and protection from state violence.
This incident reflects a dangerous culture of unchecked police power, political cover-ups, and disrespect toward those who serve the nation. It is not merely a failure — it is a betrayal of justice.
