CITY LEGEND STEVE WALSH PRESENTS TROPHIES TO FC KHALSA GAD
(SAMAJ WEEKLY)- Leicester City legend Steve Walsh who was one of the star players during the club’s successful period when Martin O’Neil was the manager, presented trophies to the FC Khalsa GAD’s Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and coaches at a special ceremony on Sunday 14th July at Guru Amar Das Gurdwara in the presence of Sikh scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Speaking from the stage, Lakhvir Singh Sangra ‘Lally’ said the club was formed by a group of close friends in 1979 and pointed out that club’s new youth academy at Judgemeadow Community College at beginning of this year is the main reason that their Under 9s team won two out of four summer national tournaments, were finalist in one and semi final in another so were overall winners of this age group. The Under 13s won the Leicester tournament on 23 June and Under 11s were winners at Derby on 7th July.
The General Secretary of the Gurdwara Sukhdev Singh Sangha congratulated the management, coaches, players, parents and supporters on the club’s excellent results this year and was pleased that an Under 8s team is going to be entered to play in the league. He further commented that the Gurdwara is pleased to have supported the club in the past and will carry on doing so in future.
The ex-captain of Leicester City Steve Walsh who also scored the winning goals against arch-rivals Derby at Wembley in a play-off final presented medallions to the Under 5s Academy players, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13s players and trophies to the coaches of the above teams. The city legend also contributed to the donation made by the congregation when a group of players and coaches recited religious hymns {Kirtan] on the stage.
