Punjab Government committed to wiping out drug menace completely from society: MP Malvinder Singh Kang
Review meeting held under ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’ to assess efforts being made to eradicate drugs also reviewed
SBS Nagar (Samajweekly) (jatinder pal singh kaler ) Lok Sabha Member Malvinder Singh Kang on wednesday said that the Punjab Government is fully committed to eliminating the drug menace from society and is pursuing a determined campaign under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to restore the glory of ‘Rangla Punjab’. Chairing a review meeting under the state government’s anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’, Mr. Kang said the fight against narcotics was no longer confined to government agencies alone but had evolved into a broad-based public movement. He said people from all sections of society were extending support to the campaign, strengthening the collective resolve to free Punjab from drugs.Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, Chairman Improvement Trust Satnam Singh Jalwaha, SSP SBS Nagar Tushar Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Avneet Kaur and SDM SBS Nagar Amanjyot Kaur, and AAP District President Roby Kang were present at the meeting.
The MP said the state government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to deal with the challenge. While law enforcement agencies have intensified action against drug peddlers and traffickers, equal emphasis is being placed on rehabilitation of persons struggling with addiction. He said the government is working to ensure that those affected by substance abuse receive an opportunity to return to a dignified and productive life. Mr. Kang said the administration is also focusing on preventive measures by encouraging young people to engage in sports, education, skill development, employment and other constructive pursuits. He said meaningful opportunities for youth are essential to keeping them away from addiction and building a healthier society. Appreciating the contribution of Village Defence Committees and Ward Defence Committees, the MP said their members were working fearlessly at the grassroots level and playing an important role in identifying and preventing drug-related activities. He urged them to further strengthen their efforts and maintain close coordination with the civil and police administration. During the meeting, officials of the district administration and police, along with district and block coordinators, reviewed the measures being taken under the anti-drug campaign. Mr. Kang also took stock of the ongoing action by district police against drug smugglers.
Lauding the coordinated efforts of the civil and police administration, he expressed confidence that with public participation, Punjab would uproot the drug menace and move steadily towards progress and prosperity. Earlier, Doaba In-charge of Nasha Mukti Morcha Atin Agnihotri welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included District Coordinator Dinesh Suri, Baljeet Ram, Prabhjot Singh Banga, Inderjit Kumar, Beant Singh, Vishal Khosla, Baljot Singh, MC Shivram Kainth, and Atma Ram.
