Islamabad, Britain’s Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine, arrived in Pakistan on a five-day visit, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi welcomed the couple on arrival in the capital Islamabad on Monday. Two children presented bouquets to the guests, Xinhua news agency reported.
British High Commissioner in Pakistan Thomas Drew and senior Pakistani officials were also at a military airbase to receive the couple.
They will meet Pakistani President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan during their stay in Pakistan, officials said.
“Arrival of the royal couple will highlight Pakistan’s positive and peaceful image in the world,” Qureshi told reporters.
He described the visit as historic and said the visit will further strengthen the relations between Pakistan and Britain.
Drew said that during their five-day visit, the royal couple would visit the “breadth and depth” of Pakistan.
In his video message shared on Twitter, Drew said the visit would largely focus on showcasing Pakistan as a dynamic and forward-looking nation.
He said most importantly, the royal couple hope to meet as many Pakistanis as possible during the visit, particularly the youth who are shaping the future of the country.
Drew said the couple are looking forward to building a lasting friendship with the people of Pakistan.
