New Delhi, By-elections to Gujarat’s three Assembly seats, including Jamnagar Rural, will be held on April 23 along with voting for state’s 26 parliamentary seats, the Election Commission announced here on Thursday.
Jamnagar (Rural) seat fell vacant on Monday when Congress MLA Vallabh Dharaviya submitted his resignation to Speaker Rajendra Trivedi.
Dharaviya is the third MLA to leave the Congress and resign as legislator in the past one week. Last week, four-time legislator from Manavadar Jawahar Chavda and Dhrangardra legislator Parshottam Sapariya quit the party.
The results for all three Assembly seats would be declared on May 23.
“After taking into consideration various factors like festivals, electoral rolls and weather conditions, the Commission has decided to hold by-election to fill this vacancy,” it said.
The notification for the by-elections will be issued on March 28 and the last date of nominations will be April 4. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures would be April 8, it said.
